Papeles Para Todos (PPT)

​LUNA was part of the Papeles Para Todos (PPT) campaign in partnership with other organizations within the Rapid Response Network. Together with community members and other community organizations, PPT created a movement based on unity and strength by numbers.

​Actions and events were held to demand a complete stop to all arrests and detentions by ICE, demand the release of those in ICE custody, and demand citizenship for all.

Actions included:

• Caravada de Justicia:  A car caravan to protest that a plan for immigration reform was not included in Biden's first years. The caravan was hosted on the day of inauguration (Jan 20th 2021).
• MARCH: For Citizenship & Economic Rights to demand congress to prioritize our community in its new $3.5 trillion spending plan

Lead Exposure Campaign

Background Information:
After the publication of the Reid Hillview Airport Lead Study, the community came together to demand Santa Clara County to take action to keep the public safe from lead exposure.

Therefore, the County took steps to address and bring awareness to lead exposure around the Reid Hillview Airport (RHV). Part of the effort included:

• Need for a lead study (done by experts)
• Need to inform the community
  
• Need to work with community organizations

In July 2022, LUNA and the County partnered to take these steps. From July to October 2022 LUNA and a team of Promotores door knocked 14,481 households 1.5 miles around the RHV airport.

October 2022-Dec 2022 LUNA held House Meetings with community members to inform them of the findings of the RHV lead study and to provide lead exposure education.

Nov 2022-January 2023 LUNA invited and prepared community members to participate in the EPA public hearing related to leaded aviation fuel and the 90 day public comment period.

Eventually due to shortage of staffing LUNA had to pause this campaign.

Prior to this pause & eventual close at the end of 2023, LUNA made sure to have fulfilled the partnership's intentions: informing the community about the findings of the RHV lead study, lead exposure education and actions community members can take to protect themselves, and connected residents to the EPA hearing and 90 day public comment process.

Supporting Berryessa Flea Market Vendors

LUNA supported the Berryessa Flea Market Vendors (BFVA) in their campaign to advocate for vendors rights. During a series of negotiations and meetings with city council, the vendors association had a major win, ensuring financial re-institutions for vendors and a compromise to ensure the creation of a new market space created with the guidance of an advisory group that will be composed of members of the BFVA. 

Transportation

​​Our team knows how important transportation is for many of our community members, for this reason LUNA is part of the Transportation Equity Task Force for the City of San Jose, providing insights on what to consider when bringing emerging mobility resources to the city.

Ways LUNA was involved:

• Partnering with the city to help in outreach efforts around the Emergency Mobility Action Plan. As well as hosting focus groups. 
  
• Worked alongside the city of San Jose to inform and get community feedback about Move San Jose, the city-wide mobility and access plan.
  
• Presented skits performed by Promotoras to bring information about transportation policies to the community
