Our Tropicana Chapter started in 2015 when a group of LUNA leaders went across the neighborhood taking surveys about the concerns of the neighborhood. Thus the Tropicana-Lanai neighborhood became the very first neighborhood LUNA canvassed. For the past seven years, our team has provided support to the neighborhood guided by the Tropicana-Lanai neighborhood association president and long term leaders.

Since 2015 LUNA has been working with leaders of the McLaughlin tenant's association. It wasn't until 2018 that "The Santee" chapter was developed. LUNA since then has worked to bring information for housing and immigrants rights advocacy and during the peak of the covid-19 pandemic, LUNA provided rental assistance to individuals most in need in the Santee neighborhood. LUNA helped established bi-weekly food distribution events that are now run completely by leaders of the community.

In early 2020, LUNA started collaborating with leaders of the neighborhood association in East Palo Alto (Known as the Comite de Vecinos de East Palo Alto). Community leaders in this neighborhood had already been advocating for tenant's rights, and LUNA has been supporting their leadership as a fiscal sponsor for various projects related to the census campaign, food distribution, providing low-cost internet and more. The association continuously works to promote tenant and immigrant rights as well as advocating for environmental justice.

In the last two years, LUNA team members have focused on providing space for development of leadership in the Bonita and 24th neighborhood. There are three different mobile home parks in this neighborhood and after one year of advocacy, LUNA has helped the San Antonio mobile home park establish a leadership group to bring neighbors together to identify the issues they face, and work together to find solutions. |
